Michael Corrigan and the Corrigan family have a long history in the community that Michael now represents - District 14. In fact, he is part of the third generation of Corrigans to live there. He was elected to the City Council in 2003, re-elected in 2007, and served as Council President for the 2006-2007 Council Year.
Michael also has a long history of involvement with and commitment to public work and community service. As a teenager he participated in Junior Achievement and now as an adult, his volunteer efforts have grown to include leadership positions with other great organizations such as Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Riverside Avondale Preservation and the Rotary Club of West Jacksonville.
Michael was in the 1997 Class of Leadership Jacksonville and is in the 2007 Class of Leadership Florida. He is a Member of the First Coast Manufacturing Association (FCMA), Chair of the Steering Committee for the "1000 In 1000" Initiative (moving 1000 people out of poverty in 1000 days), Chair of the Florida First Coast Workforce Development Consortium (FCWD), Member of the First Coast Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Member of the Tourist Development Council (TDC), and Chair of the City Council Land Use and Zoning Committee (LUZ).
For over a quarter of a century, Michael has helped build his family's business, Nu-Trend Plastics. This company is a local thermoforming plastic packaging business specializing in the bakery, airline, seafood and candy industries. Michael's first position in the company was digging the foundation that his manufacturing facility is built on. He now serves as company president, so Michael has literally worked his way from the ground up.
He is a graduate of Bishop Kenny High School, received his AA degree from Florida Junior College and attended the University of North Florida.
Michael is married to Edna DeAngelis Corrigan and they have three children: Chelsea, Emily and Connor. The Corrigans are active members of St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
