City Councilwoman Faye Rustin Sponsors Legislation to Create the Purple Heart Trail to the Veterans Wall in Jacksonville

Tuesday, October 26, 2004 Jacksonville, Fla.

Unanimously, the Jacksonville City Council approved legislation initiated by Councilwoman Faye Rustin, At-Large, Group 1, to create the Purple Heart Trail from Jacksonville's Veterans Memorial Arena to the Veterans Wall. This walkway was so named in commemoration all those who have been wounded or killed as a result of combat action while in military service.

"I felt it was important to recognize not only those who have died during combat, but those who have sacrificed their well-being to keep us out of harm's way," commented Rustin. "I am always in awe of those who are so dedicated."

Once established, three granite markers along the pathway will define this special trail and the significance of its name – the most prestigious Purple Heart Medal.
