City and Community Leaders Celebrate Grand Opening of Huffman Boulevard Park

Friday, June 29, 2007 Jacksonville, Fla.

Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton, City Council Member Richard Clark and the Department of Parks, Recreation, Entertainment and Conservation announce the grand opening of the Huffman Boulevard Park.

The new park features two multi-purpose fields, two basketball courts, two tennis courts, restroom facilities, walking trail, off-road bike trail, multi-purpose concrete slab for skaters, playground and a pavilion.  The cost of construction was approximately $1.8 million, supported by city bond funds and a matching grant from the Florida Recreation Development Assistance program.

"This park has been a long-awaited enhancement for the community," said Mayor Peyton.  "With amenities for nearly any resident, the park will serve an important role in the community for years to come."

"This community has been involved with the creation and development of Huffman Park for a number of years.  We appreciate their diligence and patience throughout this project and are excited for the grand opening of this beautiful park.  The entire neighborhood will now be able to enjoy a variety of facilities within a short walk, bicycle ride or car drive of their home," said Council Member Clark.  "Huffman Park is a valuable addition to our parks here in Council District 3 and the entire City of Jacksonville."

Huffman Boulevard Park is located about one half mile north of Beach Boulevard, in the Arlington area.  The 14.85 acre site was acquired by the City of Jacksonville in November 1987 from City National Bank of Florida.

The event was sponsored in part by The Honeybaked Ham Company.
