City Council Member Michael Corrigan Receives Delores Kesler Community Mentor Award at TELEmachus Awards Ceremony

Wednesday, January 30, 2008 Jacksonville, Fla.

Jacksonville City Council Member Michael Corrigan (Council District 14) received the prestigious Delores Kesler Community Mentor Award at the TELEmachus Awards ceremony at the University of North Florida University Center on Tuesday, January 29th.  The Delores Kesler Community Mentor Award is presented annually "to an exceptional individual who serves as a constant mentor - a friend, role model, and advisor - to the community at large."  The award is named for Delores Kesler, a Jacksonville native who founded AccuStaff, Inc. (now the MPS Group) and has long been active in community affairs, particularly regarding education and mentoring for youth.  The Kesler Mentoring Connection that she founded is one of the prime sponsors of the annual TELEmachus Awards, which celebrate individuals and organizations in Northeast Florida that actively promote and provide mentoring services.

Michael Corrigan is the President of Nu-Trend Plastics, a local packaging company founded by his father.  Elected to the City Council in 2003 and re-elected in 2007, Mr. Corrigan represents the Riverside, Avondale, Ortega, Timuquana, and Argyle Forest areas.  He has long been a mentor himself, and in addition to his City Council service is active in a wide variety of community affairs and organizations, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Riverside Avondale Preservation and the Rotary Club of West Jacksonville.  Mr. Corrigan served as President of the City Council for the 2006-07 council year.
