King Holzendorf, a Jacksonville native, was first elected to the City Council in 1995 and reelected for a second term in 1999. Holzendorf was involved in several civic organizations, including the NAACP. He was also on the board of directors of the Florida Martin Luther King, Jr. Institute for Non-Violence.

King was employed at River Region Human Services, a comprehensive drug abuse prevention program. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Edward Waters College and was a retired Sergeant First Class from the Florida National Guard.
