The Art in Public Places Ordinance was adopted by City Council and approved by the mayor in April 1997. In May 2002 the ordinance was revised and again adopted and approved along with the five year Master Plan.
The mayor appoints and the City Council confirms the 11 members of this committee who are charged with the responsibility of the Art in Public Places Program.
The Jacksonville Art in Public Places Program seeks to provide for the City of Jacksonville a realization of the goals set forth in the Ordinance including:
-Add to the cultural heritage of the city through aesthetic enhancement
of the environment.
-Make art of excellent quality accessible to all the diverse elements of
our population including children, thus stimulating intellectual and
artistic growth.
-Create focal points within the city for the enjoyment and contemplation
of fine art.
-Enhance the stature of the city by defining its commitment to artists
and to the creative process as a vital element of urban dynamics.
