MAC AIDS Fund
The MAC AIDS Fund supports men, women, and children affected by HIV/AIDS globally.  The fund has identified the following four crucial areas of need affecting the epidemic: Link between Poverty and AIDS - funding for basic needs such as food and housing to those living  with HIV/AIDS; Models of Care - developing hospitals and increasing the number of doctors and nurses in countries that need it the most; Treatment Adherence - developing peer-based programs to help people adhere to their treatment regimes;  and Prevention - programs with a specific focus on high risk populations such as youth, people over 50, and African Americans.  Grants are awarded to nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations that are directly associated with HIV/AIDS.  Typical grant size ranges between $5,000 and $25,000 each.

Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida
The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida, Inc. works to enhance access to quality health-related services for Floridians, with a particular focus on the uninsured and underserved.  The Blue Foundation board of directors has identified community-based health clinics and outreach services as a priority focus for the foundation's grantmaking. The greatest percentage of the Blue Foundation funding will be to identify, nurture, and sustain such activities to benefit uninsured and underserved populations.  The foundation awards up to $2 million annually in grants during two proposal cycles in the summer and winter. Requests will generally be considered for proposals of all sizes from $10,000 up to $100,000 each. Multi-year commitments up to three years may be made, but the total dollar request should not exceed $100,000.  To be eligible, applicant must be a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization and be located in Florida. The foundation will not accept more than one proposal from a single organization within a twelve-month period, unless the organization has received specific approval from the foundation to do so.

Grants to Expand Substance Abuse Treatment Capacity for Drug Courts
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment is accepting applications for fiscal year 2008 Grants to Expand Substance Abuse Treatment in Adult Drug Courts. The purpose of the program is to expand and/or enhance substance abuse treatment services in "problem solving" courts which use the treatment drug court model in order to provide alcohol and drug treatment, recovery support services supporting substance abuse treatment, screening, assessment, case management, and program coordination to adult defendants/offenders. Priority for the use of the funding should be given to addressing gaps in the continuum of treatment. Grantees will be expected to provide a coordinated, multi-system approach designed to combine the sanctioning power of treatment drug courts with effective treatment services to break the cycle of criminal behavior, alcohol and/or drug use, and incarceration or other penalties.  Eligible applicants include: existing individual treatment drug courts that have demonstrated relationships/agreements with existing community-based substance abuse treatment providers in order to create the necessary networks to successfully implement these grants.  Award ceiling: $300,000.

Data Management and Coordinating Center for the Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network (U54)
The National Institutes of Health invites applications to facilitate clinical research in rare diseases through support for collaborative clinical research in rare diseases, including longitudinal studies of individuals with rare diseases, clinical studies and/or phase I , II and III  trials; training of clinical investigators in rare diseases research; pilot and demonstration projects; a test bed for distributed clinical data management that incorporates novel approaches and technologies for data management, data mining, and data sharing across rare diseases, data types, and platforms; and access to information related to rare diseases for basic and clinical researchers, academic and practicing physicians, patients, and the lay public.  Eligible applicants include: Public, Private, State Controlled Institutions of Higher Education; Hispanic-serving Institutions; Historically Black Colleges and Universities; Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities; Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions; Nonprofits; Small Businesses; For-Profit Organizations; Small businesses; State Governments; Indian/Native American Tribal Governments; Indian/Native American Tribally Designated Organizations; City, Township, County Governments; Special District Governments; U.S. Territory or Possession; Regional Organizations; and Faith-based or Community-based Organizations.  Award ceiling: $875,000.

Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPOREs) in Human Cancer for the Year 2008 and 2009 (P50)
The National Cancer Institute invites grant applications for Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPOREs) in organ-specific cancers. This announcement targets applicant institutions with demonstrated ability to conduct translational research in the prevention, etiology, screening, diagnosis, and/or treatment of human cancer.  Applications may address cancer in any organ site, but each application must be organ site specific.  Eligible applicants include: public, private, state controlled institution of higher education; nonprofit organizations; small businesses; for-profit organizations; state governments; U.S. territories or possessions; regional organizations; and eligible agencies of the federal government.

Deadline: February 5, June 5, October 5 annually
Anemia of Inflammation and of Chronic Diseases (R01)
The National Institutes of Health, solicits Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions/organizations for biomedical research that will lead to a better understanding of the pathophysiology and clinical impact of the anemia of inflammation or the anemia of chronic disease (AICD).  The outcome of this research should lead towards improved methods of detection, prevention and treatment of this common form of anemia. 

Deadline: February 12, June 12 and October 12 annually
AHRQ Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01)
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) announces its' interest in supporting the Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) in health services research which provides specialized study support for research-trained doctorates (e.g., Ph.D., Sc.D., Dr.P.H.) who are committed to a career in health services research and have the potential to develop into independent investigators.  The mission of AHRQ is to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care for all Americans. Eligible applicants include: public or non-profit private institution, such as a university, college, or a faith/community based organization; units of local or state government; eligible agencies of the federal government; and Indian/Native American Tribal governments and designated organizations.

NIDCD Research Grants for Translating Basic Research into Clinical Tools for Human Health (R21)
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) is encouraging Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant applications which translate basic research findings into clinical tools for better human health in the NIDCD mission areas of hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech and language. The intent of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide a new avenue for basic scientists, clinicians and clinical scientists to jointly initiate and conduct translational research projects. The scope of this FOA includes a range of activities to encourage translation of basic research findings which will impact the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of communication disorders. Multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary, and academic-industrial collaborations studies are encouraged.  Eligible applicants include: public, private, state controlled institutions of higher education; nonprofits; for profit organizations; small businesses; state governments and non-U.S. entities.

FY 2008 Food Stamp Outreach Program
Eligibile applicants are invited to compete for a 2008 Food Stamp Outreach Grant. The Food and Nutrition Service, of USDA has at least $1 million, contingent upon availability of FY08 appropriated funds. The purpose of the FY 2008 grant is to implement and learn more about effective strategies to inform and educate potentially eligible low income seniors and Hispanic persons, who are not currently participating in the Food Stamp Program (FSP), about the nutrition benefits of the program, eligibility rules, and how to apply.

Genomic Applications in Practice and Prevention
This FOA solicits applications to conduct research that will accelerate the translation of genomic applications into public health practice. Research supported by this FOA will advance knowledge about the validity, utility, utilization and population health impact of genomic applications for improving health and preventing disease in large, well-defined populations or practice settings in the United States, specifically research that will move genomics applications along the translation research continuum phases T2 through T4 (i.e., from development of evidence-based guidelines to outcomes research).

NHLBI Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards for Individual Predoctoral MD/PhD Fellows (F30)
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is interested in supporting individual predoctoral fellowships for combined MD/PhD training in research areas relevant to the mission of the NHLBI.

Its mission is to provide leadership for national programs in diseases of the heart, blood vessels, lung, and blood; blood resources; and sleep disorders through individual and institutional research training awards and career development awards. Eligible applicants include: students currently enrolled in a combined MD/PhD program and current medical or graduate students seeking admission to a combined program that provides research training in areas relevant to the NHLBI mission; for-profit and non-profit organizations; public or private institutions such as universities, colleges, hospital, and laboratories; and eligible agencies of the Federal government including NIH intramural laboratories.

Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Short-Term Institutional Research Training Grants (T35) 
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) will award Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Short-Term Institutional Research Training Grants (T35) to eligible institutions to develop or enhance research training opportunities for individuals interested in careers in biomedical and behavioral research. Many of the NIH Institutes and Centers use this grant mechanism exclusively to support intensive, short-term research training experiences for students in health professional schools during the summer.

Research on Co-Morbid Mental and Other Physical Disorders
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) solicit grant applications that propose studies on the co-occurrence and co-morbidity of mental disorders with other physical disorders. An important goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to identify potent, modifiable risk and protective factors amenable to intervention, and to translate the results of such studies into initial tests of theory-driven prevention and early intervention strategies. Risk and protective factors include biological, psychosocial, behavioral, and environmental contributors to co-morbid disorders.
