Woodland Acres Cleanup Aims to Restore Community Pride

Friday, February 01, 2008 Jacksonville, Fla.    

The City of Jacksonville, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Council Member Bill Bishop, Council Member Clay Yarborough, community leaders, Shadco-E, L.A.B. Investments, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Army Reserves and Jacksonville University students will host a community cleanup event to help restore neighborhood pride and improve quality of life.

WHEN: 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 2
WHERE: Woodland Acres neighborhood

Woodland Acres is bordered by Arlington expressway to the north, Southside Boulevard to the east, Arlington Road to the west and Atlantic Boulevard to the south.

Woodland Acres Elementary School, 328 Bowlan St., will serve as the central staging area location.

WHAT: Area residents have been asked to place trash, yard waste, appliances, junk and other items they wish to dispose of on the curb in front of their home today.

Volunteers from various organizations will haul the items away free of charge tomorrow.

Additional areas of interest identified for garbage and yard waste cleanup include the ditches at Galveston and Kona Avenues, the wooded area off

Kona Avenue by the retention pond, the wooded area by Arlington Expressway near Lee and Cates Glass and the North Florida School, the intersection of Century Street and Kona Avenue, and city-owned properties in the area.

This event is sponsored in part by Burger King, Famous Amos, Hooters, Krispy Kreme, McDonalds, Olive Garden, Piccadilly, Publix, Wendy's and Winn Dixie
