City Partners with Non-Profit to Observe "International Surf Day" with Beach Cleanup

Friday, June 12, 2009 Jacksonville, Fla.     The City of Jacksonville's Clean It Up, Green It Up office will partner with the First Coast Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation to observe Surfing Magazine's "International Surf Day" with a cleanup Saturday, June 20. 

The Beach Cleanup and will be held on Saturday, June 20 from 8:30 a.m. -10 a.m.  Litter bags and gloves will be distributed to volunteers at the following locations:

ˇ         Neptune Beach Town Center

ˇ         20th Avenue North

ˇ         Casa Marina Hotel

ˇ         Jacksonville Beach Lifeguard Station

ˇ         16th Avenue South in Jacksonville Beach.   

Cleanup participants must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by an adult and should bring water and wear sturdy footwear and sun protection.  Advance registration is NOT required.  

Following the cleanup, "trash" awards and a group surf will be held near the Jacksonville Beach Pier  at Casa Marina Hotel at 10:30 a.m., and an after event  party hosted by MySufari.com will be held 5 p.m. at the Landshark Café. The party is free for beach cleanup participants with a wrist band.

Partnering organizations include, Sisters of the Sea, the St. Johns River Water Management District and Untamed Adventures.  This event is sponsored locally by the City of Jacksonville, First Coast Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, Monster Energy, Earthpack, Surfing Magazine, The Sign Shop and Surfing Day.
