RALLY Jacksonville!, otherwise known as the Mayor's Literacy Initiative, is Mayor John Peyton's plan to get every child ready to read! This plan will make early literacy a core value in Jacksonville, improve the quality of its child care sites, and increase the number of children who are ready for school at the beginning of kindergarten. |

How Does It Work?
- Mayor Peyton's Book Club: Calling all pre-kindergarteners! You are invited to receive a backpack filled with fun reading resources and a series of Jacksonville-themed children's books!
- RALLY Champions!: Corporate and civic organizations are partnering with child care sites in neighborhoods all over Jacksonville! Volunteers are reading to children, hosting teacher appreciation events, providing books and beautifying playgrounds! Click here to learn more!
- Quality Child Care Teams: Teams of literacy experts will travel to child care centers and help them improve their curriculum and methods, focusing on each center's unique challenges. Currently, we have 73 professionals working in 198 childcare centers in a total of 633 classrooms. These literacy experts are working with a total of 7,698 children ages zero to five years old.
- Quality Rating System: The Early Learning Coalition of Duval is piloting a new quality rating system for child care centers and family child care homes, making it easier for parents to identify and compare school-readiness sites.
- RALLY Book Drive!: RALLY Book Drive! was an effort to collect and distribute 1,000,000 books by July 2007 to Jacksonville's children. See how we did! Click here to learn more!
