July 5th Beaches Cleanup Questions and Answers

How can I participate?
Participants must be over 18 years of age or accompanied by an adult. You do not need to register in advance. Trash bags and gloves will be available from volunteer coordinators at each of the listed cleanup sites from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m. Get permission from property owners to cleanup any site that is not on public land. After you cleanup, return to the volunteer check-in to provide us with some details of the cleanup.

 

What should I bring?
Water or other beverages, protective footwear, sun protection, hand cleaner, mobile phone and first aid kit. You should wear bright colors or safety vests if your plan includes working along the roadside. Trash bags and disposable gloves will be available at the designated volunteer cleanup sites.

Any other safety suggestions?
Avoid overexertion and drink plenty of fluids, use caution on slippery surfaces, be alert for animals, call 911 for emergencies. Report suspicious items to your site leader. Do not handle these or other questionable items such as medical waste or sharp or heavy objects. Wear gloves and wash your hands after the cleanup.

Where will we place the debris we gather?
Waste containers are placed along the beach and site leader volunteers will be on hand to advise participants about disposal.
