Pet Friendly Shelter IconGet Ready buttonThe City of Jacksonville launched the Pet Friendly Public Evacuation Shelter Program to meet the needs of the community during hurricane season.

No preregistration is required! Click here to complete a registration form to bring with you to a shelter.

Facts about the shelters:

Shelter Locations
Three pet friendly shelters are at Landmark Middle School , Mandarin Middle School  and Chimney Lakes Elementary School. Click on the school to see a map and get the address. 

Species Allowed
The following animal species will be accepted into the shelters:

  • Dogs
  • Cats
  • Rodents (such as hamsters, gerbils, etc.)
  • Rabbits
  • Birds
    NO REPTILES WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE SHELTERS

Pet Requirements
All pets must have proof of vaccination and registration, be properly crated or caged and be maintained by their owners. Animals may be housed in a separate room from their owners. Click here to learn more about

Owners should provide all necessary supplies to maintain their pet. The items to include in a pet emergency kit are listed on the Emergency Kit for Pets page.

Transportation
Service animals are the only animals allowed on public transportation. Make sure you plan ahead to get your pet safely to a shelter.

Call for Volunteers
Pet friendly shelters need volunteers to function. If you would like to volunteer at a pet friendly shelter, you must register with Volunteer Services.

This program is a coordinated project involving Animal Care and Control, the Emergency Operations Center, the Duval County Health Department, the Duval County School System and the American Red Cross.
