PROGRAMS OPERATED BY THE FAMILY NURTURING CENTER
Dependency Visitation Program:
- provides a safe place for supervised visitations between parents and children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse and/or neglect;
- provides free transportation so children who are temporarily residing in foster care or placed with relatives can participate in a 90 minute supervised visit with their parents;
- all visits are bi-weekly and are court-ordered.
The Family Law Program:
- provides supervised visitation between non-custodial parents and their children. All cases are court-ordered through either Domestic Violence cases or Family Law Court;
- provides monitored exchange services so a non-custodial parent may pick up the child(ren) for an unsupervised visit without having contact with the custodial parent.
- cases referred by the Family Law Court pay for services on a sliding fee scale;
- cases referred as a result of Domestic Violence are never charged a fee.
The One-to-One Parent Education Program:
- developed for parents whose children have been removed from the home because of abuse or neglect;
- parents are referred to the program by the Department of Children and Families;
- parents must attend weekly classes of one hour followed by a 90 minute supervised visit with their children;
- teaches a violence-free, nurturing form of parenting; upon successful completion of the 12-week program, families are referred to the Dependency Visitation Program, if they are not immediately reunified;
- services are provided free of charge to participants through funding from the Department of Children and Families and other private foundations.
