Downtown Signage

The City of Jacksonville adopted Ordinance # 2002-446-E in June of 2002 which was amended by Ordinance # 2007-564-E in June of 2007 to address concerns about downtown signage.  The intent of the legislation was to create a new sign legislation which encourages pedestrian-scale urban-oriented signage appropriate for our Central Business District as described in the Downtown Master Plan (PDF 15.49Mb).

Sign Permits are issued by the Building Inspection Division, however, the Downtown Development Review Board (DDRB) will review signs inside it's jurisdiction (PDF 5.70Mb) for compliance with the new downtown signage legislation.

Sign Permit Applications and Checklists should initially be submitted to the Sign Review Office.  However, prior to sign permit approval, the application must be reviewed and approved by the Downtown Development staff.  Appointments can be made for sign review by contacting Jim Klement, Redevelopment Coordinator, at 630-2689 or at Jklement@coj.net.
