Please direct questions about the exemption or the form to pacustserv@coj.net or call 904-630-2020.

To be eligible to make application for Homestead Exemption, you must own and occupy the home prior to January 1st of the year in which you make application. The deadline to file is March 1st. If you are filing after this date, for the current year, you must apply in person. There is a $15 fee charged by the Value Adjustment Board. It is payable by personal check, money order or cashiers check only. NO CASH ACCEPTED.

1. Homestead Exemption Complete Package (PDF 1.4Mb)You must have Adobe Reader to view this file. Once the Adobe is installed, return to this page and click on the link for the complete package. This will open the package. You can then save the documents to your machine by clicking on the diskette icon in the Adobe interface. The complete package contains a sample form, blank form, instructions on filling out the form and documentation rules.

If you are filing a late application for an exemption, please read this important Notice to Taxpayers. In addition to completing the exemption application, you must file a formal Petition to the Value Adjustment Board.

2. Application Instructions - Review instructions on how to fill out the form by following step by step numbered instructions online. (Included in Homestead Exemption Complete Package Same file as in #1. You must have Adobe Reader to view this file.)

3. Documentation - Review the requirements listed in this document and obtain the appropriate documents such as deed, drivers license, etc.(Included in Homestead Exemption Complete Package, in steps #1 & #2.)

4. Portability - If you received homestead exemption in Florida last year please review important information on the new law passed in January 2008 regarding portability (transfer) of all or part of your Save Our Homes benefit. The link below will also provide the form necessary to file for the transfer. This is not a transfer of your previous homestead exemption but rather a transfer of the savings you received on your old homesteaded property as a result of a Florida law which caps the annual increase in the assessed value of homesteaded property at 3% or less. You must still file for a new homestead exemption on your new home. A separate application is required for Portability. If you are eligible for the transfer of the Save Our Homes benefit, you should include the Portability form with your application for homestead exemption. The deadline for filing for Portability is also March 1st.  Portability Information & Form
