Traffic Calming

As the City of Jacksonville continues to grow and roadways become more congested, anxious drivers begin to seek alternate routes. Local streets are utilized, which impact neighborhoods with additional traffic cutting through. When cut-through traffic is combined with neighborhood traffic, residents often become alarmed and begin to seek measures to return their streets to safe, calm and livable conditions.

The specific measures utilized to address the excessive speeds and increased traffic volumes are known as traffic calming techniques. These techniques are carefully planned measures to redirect traffic to more efficient thoroughfares and restore a sense of livability and safety to neighborhood streets that have become commuter short cuts.

This manual contains information needed to request a traffic calming study for your neighborhood.

To request a manual be mailed to you or if you have additional questions please call (904) 630-CITY (2489) or visit ecare.coj.net.
