Criminal Justice Substance Abuse Program

The Behavioral and Human Services Division funds contracted services for chemically dependent adults within the Duval County correctional system.  The Criminal Justice Substance Abuse Program (CJSAP) provides licensed substance abuse prevention and intervention services to the general adult inmate population; it also includes a specialized four-month, 135 bed intensive substance abuse treatment unit for chemically dependent male and female inmates within the Community Transition Center of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Community-based continuing care (aftercare) services, including case management and other supportive services, are available for up to one year following release from the intensive treatment unit.   These jail-based services are currently operated by River Region Human Services, Inc.

The CJSAP also supports other state-funded community-based, licensed adult substance abuse services, including adult medical detoxification services for public inebriates under Chapter 397, Florida Statutes.

Information on the involuntary commitment process commonly referred to as the "Marchman Act" is found in Chapter 397, Part V, Florida Statutes, and information may be obtained by calling the Duval County Clerk of the Court, Mental Health Division, at (904) 630-2058.
