Preservation Project Jacksonville (PPJ) is committed to the protection of
Northeast Forida's environmentally sensitive lands and the education of residents about the natural habitats and history that surrounds our area. Through the efforts of PPJ and its partners, Jacksonville is home to more than 50,000 acres of preservation parkland, with thousands of acres open for visitors to explore the area's exquisit natural beauty, indulge in the surroundings of real Northeast Florida and be proud the vast natural areas that exist in our city.
Former Mayor John Delaney began Preservatin Project Jacksonville in 1999, with a mission to manage growth, protect environmentally sensitive lands, improve water quality, and provide public access to the City of Jacksonville's vast natural areas. To date, PPJ has aquired more than 50,000 acres of preservation parkland. Under the leadership of Mayor John Peyton, the project is moving successfully into a phase to provide public access to these beautiful areas while continuing to protect the lands.
