| CONSTRUCTION ADVISORY: Portions of Castaway Island Preserve will be closed for construction for 180 days, beginning Monday, April 20. These portions include a section of the park drive, the foot trail and the water access facility. We apologize for any inconvenience, but the closure is necessary to implement park improvements. Enhancements include a 900-foot trail expansion along a raised boardwalk with two wildlife observation platforms and a dredge of the kayak/canoe launch area that will allow water access, even during low tide. |
One of Jacksonville's premier preservation properties, Castaway Island Preserve entices visitors with its marshy banks and lush trails. The park, located along the Intracoastal Waterway, is adjacent to an intricate salt marsh ecosystem that is ideal for spotting marshland wildlife.
Visitors may stroll along Castaway Island Preserve's wooden boardwalk, take in the view from an observation platform overlooking the waterway or learn about the flora and fauna of Northeast Florida along the park's interactive nature trail. The park also has a floating canoe/kayak launch and theater-style education center.
