Fort George Island State Cultural Site, formerly a Colonial fort is a haven for culturaland water enthusiasts alike. Once an exclusive resort, the restored Ribault Club is now a visitor center. Visitors come for boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, off-road bicycling, and hiking. A site of human occupation for over 5,000 years, named for a 1736 fort built to defend the southern flank of Georgia when it was a colony.
