The City of Jacksonville Municipal Code Enforcement Boards hear and decide cases referred by a city official (inspector, code enforcement officer) when a violation continues beyond the time specified by the city official for correction.  The city official notifies the office of MCEB in writing and requests a hearing before a MCEB.

There are currently six Municipal Code Enforcement Boards for the City of Jacksonville, one board for each Planning District.  Each board is limited to seven members and two alternates who are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the Jacksonville City Council.  The boards are governed by Florida Statute, Chapter 162 and City Ordinance, Chapter 91.

The boards may issue orders imposing administrative fines and liens against an alleged violator and/or property owner.  A board's' order may be recorded in the public records and thereafter constitutes a lien against the land on which the violation exists and upon any other real or personal property owned by the violator.  A search of the public records by a title search company should reveal any MCEB lien.
