Safety Education Unit (Grades 1-5)
Safety Education Unit

The three officers of the Safety Education Unit present  safety programs for children who attend Duval County Public elemenatry schools. The Officers present an "Officer Friendly" program for the kindergarten and first grades,
"Stranger Danger" assemblies for the second through fourth grades, and "Safety Patrol" training for the fifth grade Safety Patrols. The officers travel to Washington D. C. each June with the Safety Patrol students to tour our nations capital.

Programs are also available for day care facilities and private schools.

The officers also manage the School Crossing Guard program. School Crossing Guards are part-time employees who are assigned to numerous intersections throughout the city to assist children in traveling to and from school. For more information about becoming a School Crossing Guard or for an application, please call Sonja Oliver at (904) 630-2160.

Officers also organize and participate in an annual Safety Patrol Appreciation Play Day held at the Police Athletic Leauge, 3450 Monument Road, where the patrol children compete in games and are given lunch and prizes.

If you have any questions or would like to set up a program free of charge, call any Safety Education Officer at (904) 854-6555 or (904) 355-3308.
