Community Transition Center

Community Corrections Center"Helping others help themselves," that's the mission of the Community Transition Center (CTC). Giving offenders the opportunity to start fresh and to turn their lives around is what we are all about. Each program we offer emphasizes a sense of responsibility, both morally and financially. Inmates are provided with a counselor who teaches them how to set and achieve their goal of returning to the community as a productive member of society.

Traditionally, our society has had a "lock em up and throw away the key" mentality, but this has done little to stem the tide of recidivism. The alternative forms of incarceration we offer at CTC are helping to change that.

Not only do these non-traditional forms of incarceration allow offenders to gain a new outlook on life, but they allow offenders to continue support of their families and to learn new skills through participation in the Work Furlough, Home Detention, Youth Build and Weekend Commitment Programs. As a result, many families are less dependent on government-funded programs. This translates into a lower recidivism rate and saving for the taxpayer.

Another program we offer is the Substance Abuse Treatment Program. This program began in 1990 and is comprised of male and female inmates, which have been court ordered into the program. Space is also made available to inmates who wish to volunteer for the program. This 24-hour a day, seven-day a week, 120-day program is based upon a "total therapeutic community" concept aimed at helping our inmates overcome addiction to alcohol and drugs. In addition, participants learn to solve their problems in more socially acceptable ways through intense counseling with an emphasis on anger management. Another component of the S.A.T. program is a 12-month after care program, which includes services such as employment referral and assistance with transitional living facilities.

It is our desire that these programs will help the offender return to society with a renewed spirit of hope and determination and that each participant will be better prepared to resist the criminal temptations that originally brought them to our facility.
