Montgomery Corrections CenterThe staff of Montgomery Corrections continues its commitment to our co-equal responsibilities of public safety and public service. During 2001 we directed and focused our efforts toward the utilization of our prisoner resources to advance the general good of the citizenry of Jacksonville through carefully selected community work projects.

By utilizing the skills and talents of our prisoner work force, we were able to save taxpayers several million dollars on City work projects such as Streets and Drainage, Parks and Recreation, public schools, roadside litter pick up, community clean up organizations, JEA, PAL, and Police Substations. Montgomery also met and exceeded its goals for work crews in areas such as MCC's Agriculture unit, nursery, metal fabrication shop, machinery repair shop, bedding repair, and shoe repair. Our maintenance staff was also instrumental in assisting us meet our long-term physical plant operational goals such as a long-term renovation project on our B-Wing female housing unit that provided a much-needed improvement in overall standards for our female staff and prisoners. 2001 saw the demolition of the old C-Wing unit that brought an end to an almost fifty-year-old substandard housing unit.

The Agriculture unit's community service crew once again cultivated a spring and fall garden that produced over 10,000 pounds of fresh vegetables. The beneficiaries of this produce include the I. M. Sulzbacher Center, The Clara White Mission, the City Rescue Mission, the Help Center and the Salvation Army.

We are proud to say that we met all of our obligations while at the same time maintaining the facilities within the guidelines of the ACA and State of Florida accreditation programs. Working with Correctional Medical Services, Inc., (CMS) we also maintained current accreditation by the National Commission of Correctional Health Care.

Our commitment to our community and to its welfare has and will continue to be accomplished by the professional and competent people that are Montgomery.
