Intimate Violence Enhanced Services Team
Intimate Violence Enhanced Services Team
I.N.V.E.S.T.

A key component of the Family Violence Unit is the Intimate Violence Enhanced Services Team, also known as INVEST. INVEST is comprised of one detective from the Family Violence and Child Abuse Unit and two advocates from Hubbard House. The office staff from INVEST works closely with a variety of other organizations throughout the community to provide services to families affected by domestic violence, including the Center for the Prevention of Domestic Violence. CPDV is a "one stop shop" located on the 7th floor of City Hall Annex where victims can receive assistance obtaining an injunction for protection and finding a safe place to relocate.

On a daily basis, INVEST personnel review domestic violence police reports along with threat assessments from other collaborative members.  During the review process INVEST staff members evaluate cases for lethal indicators, and advocates contact the victim to offer services which include intensive advocacy and safety planning to relocate the victim to a safer environment.  The detective ensures batterers know the law as it pertains to domestic violence and that they comply with existing court orders. The detective also assists victims in obtaining a court order and they work closely with the State Attorney's Office to build stronger cases against batterers.  This concept of detectives and advocates working together to improve the safety of families is showing positive results in Jacksonville.
