Pawnshops

Burglars often use pawnshops to turn stolen items into cash. Burglary detectives check pawnshops on a regular basis and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has computer links to the pawn shops in our city.

The importance of serial numbers and an accurate description of stolen items can't be understated in our efforts to return property to the victims of burglary.

If you are a victim of a theft or burglary and find your property at a pawn shop:

·  Remember that pawnshop personnel are not committing a crime.

·  Inform them that the item belongs to you.

·  Contact the police.

·  The responding officer will put a "police hold" on the item.

Don't expect to get your property returned to you at that time, remember it is evidence in a crime.
