Update-Bridge closing and work times during the Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair- November 3- 16, 2009

The Jacksonville Agricultural Fair dates are November 3-16, 2009.

It was agreed that the contractor could still work with exceptions.

  • Weekdays Monday - Thursday, daytime 9:00 am -3:30 pm, the contractor will be working with one lane closure (northbound/right lane).
  • Weekdays Monday - Thursday, nighttime 12:00 (midnight) - 6:00 am, the contractor will be working with a complete closure and detour....the detour will be Hart Bridge Expressway at Hart Bridge to the Matthew Bridge, Northbound and Southbound.
  • Friday - Sunday - both day and night the contractor will not be working and the there will not be any closures.
  • On the last day of the Fair, November 16th, the contractor will be allowed to work as if it were a regular contract day. Daytime lane closure (northbound/right lane), 9:00 am - 7:00 pm. and Nighttime Detour 7:00 pm - 6:00 am.

The Florida Department of Transportation has contracted with M&J Painting to repaint the Hart Bridge. Bridge maintenance activities will also include repairs to the structural steel on the bridge. Florida Department of Transportation News Release
   
Project Start Date  
Single lane closures, to prepare for the work, are expected to begin on Monday, February 9.

Full bridge closures, with detours, are expected to start on Friday, February 13. The project is currently estimated to be completed by the spring of 2011.

Bridge Closing Times -UPDATED

  • The bridge will be closed on Monday through Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Weekend closures will occur on Friday nights from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Monday mornings.
  • No individual lane closures will occur during morning rush hour (both directions)- between 6:30-9 a.m. (M-F)
  • No individual lane closures will occur during afternoon rush hour (southbound only)-between 3:30-6:30 p.m. (M-F)

These closure times and days are planned for the duration of the project. Check this website for updates or changes to this schedule. JSO will also make public announcements of any changes to the closure schedule.

The southern approach to the bridge, near Episcopal High School, will be painted during the 2009 spring, summer and/or December holiday breaks, in order to minimize inconvenience to school traffic.

Detour Information 
Travelers driving into or out of downtown Jacksonville who would normally use the Hart Bridge, should use the Main Street Bridge, Acosta Bridge or Matthews Bridge during the scheduled closures.

Special Events Occurring In Downtown Jacksonville
The Hart Bridge will re-open for specific special events . The JSO will provide information related to the bridge's opening and closing for each of these events.

Boating Information
Maritime traffic will not be impeded, but extra caution should be taken by boaters because the area is a construction zone.
