Current Situation:
Citizen safety while on Duval County roads is of the utmost concern to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO).

Traffic enforcement is the primary tool used by JSO to provide safe driving conditions. Currently all six zones have a Traffic Unit that consists of marked units, motorcycles and undercover vehicles used to enforce traffic laws. In addition, the DUI Enforcement Unit acts as a deterrent for drunk driving violations.

Important Statistics you need to know:

From Jan. 1, 2008, thru  7 a.m. May 1, 2008, the Traffic Homicide Unit, Florida Highway Patrol, Neptune Beach Police Department, and the Atlantic Beach Police Department have responded to 41 fatalities. Of those 40 traffic fatalities, 9 drivers  were confirmed driving under the influence and 11 cases are still pending Blood Alcohol Content or Autopsy Toxicology results. Click IT or Ticket Florida: Safety Belt Initiative for Drivers and Passengers
The "Click it or Ticket Florida" campaign is a statewide initiative aimed at educating motorists about the importance of safety belt use. This enforcement period surrounds one of the deadliest holidays of the year- Memorial Day weekend. Statistics from the 2006 Memorial Day weekend show that of all vehicle fatalities recorded, over half were not wearing their safety belt at the time of the crash.

JSO Holds 'Move Over' Traffic Deployment

On Nov. 14, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office held a county wide awareness campaign aimed at citizens who failed to adhere to the Move Over law. The law was enacted in July 2002 in an effort to prevent officers from being injured or killed by passing vehicles on the highways.

87 Move Over violations were given as a result of the citywide deployment.
