About the JSO Information Systems Management Unit (ISM)

Application Development and Support
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is primarily a Microsoft-focused environment with new development performed in the .NET development environment with a focus on C#. Striving to use the latest tools to create advanced law enforcement applications, this team has created many applications that are used not only at the JSO but other law enforcement agencies around the country. Areas of opportunity currently include:
- SQL Server 2005,
- Microsoft Sharepoint,
- Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing,
- Microsoft Biztalk, and
- Microsoft Project.
Network Engineer
Network Engineers at the JSO support over 100 servers in a Microsoft ADS environment with a CISCO LAN/WAN infrastructure. Opportunities for wide and varied projects exist in this area such as:
- network security,
- disaster planning,
- streaming video systems, and
- wireless networks.
Computer Support
Over 3000 Laptops and Desktop computers are supported by the computer support team of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Standard Policy is to quickly test and authenticate new operating systems and launch to the department beginning approximately six months after release. This provides the opportunity for all support staff to stay current with the latest trends in microcomputer operating systems. In addition, varied special projects keep the job interesting and an appreciative group of customers provide solid job satisfaction.
Customer Support
If you have good technical skills and an outgoing, customer-friendly attitude, you may enjoy the fast-paced position of a customer support person. This function is key to the success of all JSO employees and plays a critical role in keeping the patrol officers and detectives actively fighting crime and not focusing on technical problems.
Salaries are comparable to similar positions in the Jacksonville area and are dependent on the level of technical position and experience of the candidate.
