Paid Police Recruit Training Class

  • The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is sponsoring a PAID Police Recruit training class at FCCJ (North Campus).  Tuition and an annual salary of $35,568 will be paid to candidates selected for the class.  PRIOR to obtaining an employment application, applicants must successfully complete and possess the following:
    • Results of an FBAT (Florida Basic Abilities Test) at any FCCJ campus.
    • Original college transcripts denoting a four-year degree.
    • Or an original college transcript denoting a minimum of 60 college credit hours with documentation of four years active military service (DD-214), or four years police employment.
  • Transcripts and test scores will be accepted at the Criminal Justice Training Center, 4715 Capper Rd., Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 2 p.m.- 4 p.m.  Please call the Downtown Campus at 633-8388, South Campus at 646-2264, North Campus at 766-6773 or Kent Campus at 381-3491 for test information and business hours.
  • Note: If you are already a certified law enforcement officer, instead of submitting FBAT scores, you will need to provide of your training certificate. (Out of state certification, contact FDLE 1-850-410-8600 for transfer to Florida certification)

Qualifications

  • Must possess a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited  college or university OR
  • Possess an accredited Associate's Degree or equivalent (60 semester/90 quarter hours) with four (4) years prior active military or law enforcement experience OR
  • Possess 90 semester/135 quarter hours with two (2) years prior active military or law enforcement experience
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Not have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces
  • Not have been convicted of any felony
  • Not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving false statements, perjury or domestic violence
  • Be in good physical condition
  • Must pass the Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT) with a score of 70% or better

Benefits

  • HEALTH INSURANCE   Comprehensive Medical Coverage at no expense to the employee. Dependent Coverage available at additional charge.
  • LIFE INSURANCE   Coverage equal to the employee's annual salary with a double indemnity clause for accidental death is provided by the employer. Florida law provides $25,000.00 line-of-duty death and $75,000.00 unlawful death insurance.
  • RETIREMENT   Members may retire with a minimum of 20 years of service and collect sixty percent (60%) or a maximum of 30 years and collect eighty percent (80%) of their average base pay for the last two (2) years. Vested rights after five years of service at two and one-half percent (2 1/2 %) per year of service. There is no age requirement.
  • COLLEGE TUITION REINBURSEMENT   Restrictions Apply.

Education Incentive

  • Master of Arts/Science Degree with 18 semester hours of police science - $200.00 Monthly
