The Data Input Unit is responsible for the
data transfer and follow up processing of both electronic and handwritten reports generated by Sheriff's Office personnel. Approximately 90% of the agency's reports are written electronically. In 2006 there was a 3.5% increase in the number of electronic reports submitted to the Data Input Unit. Some of this increase may be attributed to the Operation Safe Streets initiative which was implemented in the summer of 2006.
Traffic Crash reports account for the majority of handwritten reports. There was also a 5% increase in the number of traffic crash reports processed. Unit personnel scanned more than 40,000 traffic crash reports into a document imaging system. This system provides authorized users on line access to crash reports on a 24 hour basis.
