Identification/AFIS Unit

The Identification/AFIS Unit is a specialized twenty-four hour, seven-day a week operation. The unit supports the various other units within the department as well as the Duval County Court system and other criminal justice agencies. The primary responsibilities of the Identification Unit/AFIS Unit are to provide identification services to law enforcement officers by fingerprint classification and comparison, to process the fingerprints of all persons booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility (PDF), and Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC). Additionally, they maintain a criminal history file on each arrested individual (adult or juvenile). ID  Unit personnel forward arrest data to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) for state and national automated criminal history files. This unit maintains all criminal history files for Duval County.

Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) personnel are responsible for maintaining a local fingerprint database that includes all felony and sexual predator registrations and fraud/identity theft cases. This database aids in the identification of arrested persons, deceased people and employment applicants.
