The primary responsibility of the Records Unit
is to store, maintain and make available various types of reports generated by departmental personnel. These reports are kept in numerical files and electronic databases and are available for law enforcement personnel. The general public is provided access as allowed by public record laws.
Records personnel provide local background checks, copies of reports, and information on calls for police service upon request. Requests are generated from both public and private sectors including insurance companies, law enforcement agencies, legal establishments and citizens.
The Records Unit maintains charge accounts for large volume customers and in 2007 the total number of charge account customers increased by 8.2%. Additionally, the Records Unit is responsible for performing court ordered sealings and expungement of criminal history records. A senior records clerk is responsible for performing this meticulous, labor-intensive procedure. In 2007 the Records Unit processed more than 250 court ordered sealings or expungements.
Hours of operation for the Records Unit and Public Counter are 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. We are closed on all federal holidays. Click here for a schedule of fees and additional service locations.
