Light the City Ride II Rolls for Charity

Wednesday, October 11, 2006 Jacksonville, Fla.

.The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Adamec Harley-Davidson, Venus Swim Wear, Brumos Motor Cars, and Exum Communications present the second annual Light the City Police Motorcycle Charity Ride on Friday, Oct. 13, 2006. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the police-escorted ride leaves from Alltel Stadium at 7 p.m., ending at the Jacksonville Landing. The 50 mile ride will utilize five Jacksonville bridges: the Hart, Dames Point, Main Street, Fuller Warren and Acosta bridges before ending at the Jacksonville Landing.

Light the City II is held in memory of Wilbert Wiggins, Sr., a 40 year veteran of the police force.  Officer Wiggins began his career as a member of the old Jacksonville Police Department in 1961 during the time race relations were just beginning to change in Jacksonville.  Wilbert became known as a "Trail Blazer."   He attended the first integrated Police Academy and was the first African-American to patrol on a two-wheeled motorcycle.

The ride benefits the Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police Foundation, Northeast Florida Chapter of Concerns for Police Survivors and Police Athletic League. In 2005 the inaugural Light the City raised over $50,000 for these charitable organizations.  The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Community Affairs / Special Events Division has a goal of $60,000 for this year's ride.

Tickets are $30 per driver and $20 per rider. A limited number of VIP tickets are available for $250, which includes VIP ride placement. Tickets are available for purchase at Adamec Harley-Davidson Orange Park (1520 Wells Road)  Regency Harley Davidson (10399 Atlantic Blvd.) or  Fraternal Order Of Police 5530 Beach Blvd. Or call the Fraternal Order of Police (904) 398-7010.
