Light the City Ride III Police Motorcycle Charity Ride

Light the City Ride III Police Motorcycle Charity Ride

Friday, October 12, 2007 Jacksonville, Fla.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), Adamec Harley-Davidson, Venus Swim Wear, Brumos Motor Cars, and Aetna present the 3rd annual Light the City Police Motorcycle Charity Ride on Friday, Oct. 12, 2007. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. and the police-escorted ride starts at 7 p.m. The ride begins and ends at the Adamec of Jacksonville (8909 Baymeadows Road.)

The ride is produced by the Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and benefits the Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police Foundation, Northeast Florida Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors and the Police Athletic League. In 2006 the Light the City raised over $50,000 for these charitable organizations.  The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Community Affairs & Special Events Division has a goal of $60,000 for this year’s ride.

Light the City III is being held in memory of Mr. Bob Snodgrass, President and Chief Executive Officer of Brumos Motor Cars Inc., for his friendship and support of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for more than thirty years.  Mr. Snodgrass combined his love for philanthropy and support for law enforcement professionals through many generous acts benefiting the JSO.

Snodgrass is credited with donating two body armor vests during the 1970’s Invest in a Vest campaign, four Mercedes Benz Mountain Bikes for use by officers in Zone 2 (Arlington), and 11 Mercedes- Benz and Porsche bikes and needed maintenance for the Bicycle Unit to use throughout the city.

In 2000 Brumos Motors Inc., agreed to be the corporate sponsor of Zone Two’s Finest Officer of the Month and Year awards. The company also recently agreed to provide the same program for Zone One (central city), in partnership with Lexus of Jacksonville, where Bob was the president and CEO, as well.

Since the inaugural Light the City Motorcycle Charity Ride and Police Skills Challenge, Brumos has been involved as a major sponsor.  At Bob’s direction, Brumos routinely
provided the equipment and funds needed for officers to participate in out of town Police Motorcycle Skills competitions, gaining valuable expertise and representing the JSO against other police agencies from throughout the country.

“Bob was a valued friend and supporter of JSO. Bob was chosen as the JSO 2007 Citizen of the Year because his constant generosity ensured that our officers were well equipped and highly trained,” said Sheriff John H. Rutherford.  “It is only fitting that we hold this ride in his honor. He is sorely missed by all of us – his family, his Brumos family, and his JSO family.”

HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS.
Tickets are $35 per driver and $25 per rider. A limited number of VIP tickets are available for $250, which includes VIP ride placement. Tickets are available for purchase at Adamec Harley-Davidson Orange Park (1520 Wells Road), Regency (10399 Atlantic Blvd.), SuperPlex at Baymeadows and I-95 (8909 Baymeadows Road) and FOP (5530 Beach Blvd),.
