Purple Ribbon Press Conference

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office,in conjunction with Hubbard House and other area domestic violence shelters,announced that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month at a Purple Ribbon Press Conference held on Sept.28, 2007, at 10 AM, on the front steps of the Police Memorial Building at 501 E. Bay Street, Jacksonville, FL.
Director A. L. Kelly, Department of Patrol and Enforecement; Dacia Neumann, Victim Advocate Supervisor, State Attorney's Office; Dr. Delphia Williams, Coummunity Services Department Director, City of Jacksonville; Ellen Siler,CEO Hubbard House; Shandra Riffey, Executive Director, Micah's Place; James T. Hurley, Chief of Police, City of Fernandina;Deb Brunner, Board President, Betty Griffin House participated in the press conference and ribbon pinning. The speakers were joined by law enforcement professionals from Baker, Duval, Clay, St. Johns counties and the Beaches.
"Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a time to honor the life-saving work of staff, volunteers, supporters and community leaders," said Chief Executive Officer Ellen Siler.
In October 1987, the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month was observed. For 20 years communities around the country have been participating in events to raise awareness about domestic violence, mourn those who have died because of domestic violence, celebrate those who have survived, and connect those who work to end violence.
