Police Officer of the Month
School Resource Officer Ben Carroll was honored as the Police Officer of the Month because of his quick actions on Nov. 20, 2006. As a result of Ben's decisive action a murder suspect was taken into custody, eliminating any further threat to Shands Jacksonville, community and Darnell Cookman Middle School.

Corrections Officer of the Month
Corrections Officer David Baker was honored because of his excellent handling of the Bright Ugiagbe case.

Civilian of the Month
David Messick was June's Civilian of the Month because he provides the Department of Corrections with excellent service and products at a fraction of the full retail price.

Reserve Officer of the Month
Kevin Weech was the Reserve Officer of the Month for June 2007 because of his commitment to the Reserve Officer program. He serves the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office with distinction.

Police Supervisor of the Month
Police Sergeant Jeffery K. Lentz was Junes Police Sergeant of the Month because of his excellent leadership skills.

Corrections Supervisor of the Month
JSO honored Corrections Sergeant Keith W. Knight for the tight operation he runs as the Management Information Systems Sergeant.

Six Pillars of Character Award
Corrections Lieutenant Jerry T. Milan was the Six Pillar of Character recipient for June. This award is for ANY Jacksonville Sheriff's Office employee who demonstrates ONE single act of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring or Citizenship. We are honoring Jerry today for displaying both caring and citizenship in our community.

During the ceremony, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Police Athletic league presented Undersheriff Mackesy with a check for $50, 000 from this years Guns and Hoses.
Guns N' Hoses has a history of successful fundraising in Jacksonville and has raised over one-half million-dollars for the FOP Foundation and IAFF (International Association of Fire Fighters) charities in its first eight years. |

As a part of June's Ceremony, Jacksonville Fire/Rescue Department (JFRD) Public Information Officer Tom Francis made good on his bet with Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) PIO Ken Jefferson to "Kiss a Pig" when the JFRD lost the 9th Annual Gun's N' Hoses held March 10.
