On Jan. 30, 2007 Delores Kesler presented Sheriff John H. Rutherford with the Delores Kesler Community Mentor Award during the 2nd Annual Telemachus Awards Ceremony.

Kesler Mentoring Connection held the 2nd Annual Telemachus Awards Ceremony to celebrate mentors and their supporting agencies. 

Sheriff Rutherford was honored because he values the positive results of mentoring. He believes successful crime prevention begins with early intervention. 

The Sheriff is a staunch supporter of the Police Athletic League. PAL provides  educational assistance and sports activities for youth in Jacksonville in an effort to reduce juvenile crime.
