Diversion and Intervention Programs for Juveniles
 
MAAP - Multi-Agency Assessment Program

Grant program administered by the State Attorney's Office for juvenile offenders exhibiting multiple factors indicating they are at risk of re-offending. Participants are diverted out of court and are intensely monitored at home and at school by a State Attorney case manager. Appropriate counseling is made available when needed.

YOP - Youth Offender Program

Diversion program for juveniles administered by the State Attorney's Office. Involves four distinct programs designed to provide consequences and meet various needs of young offenders.

FOP - First Offender Program/JA 1- Juvenile Arbitration I

State Attorney diversion program for first time misdemeanor arrests. Juveniles pay restitution, perform community service hours, visit the jail and participate in counseling if necessary.

JA 2 - Juvenile Arbitration II

State Attorney diversion program for minor felony or second time misdemeanor offenses. Juveniles are assigned sanctions by volunteer mediators and are monitored by State Attorney case managers.

Junior FOP

Designed for extremely young offenders. Juvenile and parents brought in to meet with State Attorney staff; referrals for counseling made if appropriate.

Teen Court Program

State Attorney diversion program for first-time misdemeanor offenses. Juveniles are sentenced by a jury of their peers. Specially trained teenagers fulfill the roles of prosecution and defense attorneys. The proceedings are presided over by practicing adult attorneys or judges.

TAP - Truancy Arbitration Program

State Attorney program designed to compel children to attend school and used as a diversionary program for parents facing prosecution for failure to send children to school.

PAS - Program for At-Risk Students

State Attorney program designed to educate at-risk students not currently in the juvenile justice system about the importance of staying in school and the consequences of criminal behavior.

Victim Impact Panels

A program administered by the State Attorney's Office where actual victims tell juveniles the effect crime has had on their lives.

Peer Impact Panel

Alcohol awareness program for juveniles sponsored by the State Attorney's Office, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and the City Victim Services Division. Students hear from families of victims killed in alcohol-related traffic accidents and juveniles prosecuted for alcohol-related traffic deaths.

HARK I - Helping At-Risk Kids

Program for perpetrators of domestic violence run by Hubbard House, used as a condition of probation or diversion.

HARK II - Helping At-Risk Kids

Program for juvenile delinquents who witness domestic violence; used as a condition of probation; designed to negate the impact of exposure to violence. Juveniles are identified through a State Attorney's Office computer program.

FOF - Focus on Females

A delinquency prevention class for females in a State Attorney diversion program. This collaborative effort with social service agencies addresses issues which affect females and can lead them to crime.

KIDS - Kids in Distress

State Attorney's Office operated diversion and counseling program for juvenile sexual offenders not needing court action.

D-FY-INCE - Drug Free Youth Incentive Program

State Attorney program which uses community incentives and peer pressure to influence youth not to use drugs.

Conflict Resolution Training

State Attorney staff work with schools to institute peer mediation.

SORP - School Outreach Program

State Attorney program assigning Assistant State Attorneys to middle schools. Attorneys visit their schools regularly and speak to students, staff, teachers and parents.

EDIP - Early Delinquency Intervention Program


A juvenile sanction designed for second offenders. Also utilized by the State Attorney's Office as a diversion program.

Juvenile Drug Court

Program for court ordered and diverted juveniles whose criminal activity is driven by substance abuse. Juveniles participate in a multi-phased treatment program and have regular status hearings before a judge.

Youth Intervention Program

Summer program run by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office; can be mandated for appropriate juveniles as a condition of probation or diversion. Focuses on self-discipline and goal setting.

Turning Point Rethinking Violence
 
Program administered by Shands Hospital for diverted and court ordered juveniles who have committed a violent offense. Participants visit the emergency room and the morgue, speak with crime victims and participate in six weeks of group counseling.
