Sources of Help for Troubled Juveniles and Their Families
  • The Youth Crisis Center:  Provides temporary shelter and case management for children threatening to run away, refusing to attend school, and/or otherwise out of control.  (Telephone: 725-6662)

  • Communities in Schools:  Connects private businesses, human resource systems, social service agencies and volunteers with at-risk students and their families, and helps keep students in school. (Telephone: 904-354-5918)

  • Tough Love:  Parents and professionals working together to change the lives of troubled teens. If you have a child who refuses to obey the rules of your home, contact for additional information and possible assistance.  (Telephone:  1-800-333-1069)

  • First Call:  When you don't know who to call – this 24-hour crisis information and referral service can provide contacts for health services, food, clothing, shelter, education, child, youth, family and elder services.  Information and referrals are free and confidential.   • Daniel Memorial and Project Prepare:   A transitional living program aimed at helping young adults in crisis; services include one-on-one case management, counseling and independent living skills training, and 24-hour on-call services and assistance. (Telephone:  904-296-1055)

  • City Victim Services:  Provides assistance to crime victims, or referrals to other agencies which may provide help.  (Telephone:  630-6300)

  • Department of Juvenile Justice:  If you need information on a juvenile defendant who has been sentenced by the Court.  (Telephone:  277-7266)

  • HARK:  A program of Hubbard House that teaches parents of troubled teens the skills needed to help them modify their child's abusive and violent behavior.  (Telephone:  904-354-0076, ext. 319)

  • Child Guidance Center - Community Family Services:   Provides in-home counseling services to teens and their families.  Services include individual and family counseling.  (Telephone:  904-745-3070, ext. 600)

  • Student Hotline:   Tip line for students, teachers and parents to report weapons and drug violations; callers will remain anonymous.   (Telephone:   1-877-723-2728 or 1-877-7BE-BRAVE)

  • Family Services Planning Team (FSPT):   Provides individual and family counseling, school-based mental health, therapeutic adult friend, in-home behavior specialist and counseling, sitter services, after-school or summer recreational activities.  Services are based on family income, availability of service, funding and suitability.  (Telephone:  Rachael Labreque, 904-723-2102, or Miriam Crowe, 904-272-8123)

  • Gateway Community Services or River Region:  Provides treatment for alcohol and drug dependent teens to assist the child and family.  (Telephone:  Gateway, 904-646-4889, or River Region, 904-899-6300)

  • The Bridge:  Provides mentoring, after school program and tutoring to teens who need help obtaining a high school diploma (GED).  (Telephone:  354-7799)

  • The Youth Employment Service:  Provides help for young people seeking employment.  (Telephone:  904-296-1055)

  • Teen Challenge International:   A faith-based program designed to work with drug addicted youth.  (Telephone:  398-0013)

  • United Way 2-1-1:   A free, confidential 24-hour crisis information and referral service, aimed at connecting those who need help with the most appropriate resources available in our community.  (Telephone:  211)

  • The Bridge: Healthy Families:   Provides case management and parenting education to young mothers of babies and preschool children and pregnant mothers. (Telephone:  904-726-0010)

  • RAPPJAX - Relatives as Parents Program of Jacksonville:   A special program for grandparents or other relatives raising children.  Provides educational training, support, resources and referrals for financial assistance, legal assistance, child care and counseling services.  Provides an opportunity to meet and talk with others facing similar challenges in a relaxed environment which ensures confidentiality.  (Telephone:  904-280-7264)

  • Camp Consequence and Empowered Parent:  An organization committed to empowering parents with the necessary skills to deal with today's most difficult children.  Main focus is on good kids making bad choices, and stopping disrespect and anger outbursts.   • State Attorney Summer Jail and Court Tour:  Tour of juvenile justice system which includes a tour of the Duval County Jail, a visit to a juvenile courtroom, and meeting and talking to incarcerated teens. (Telephone:  904-630-2075)
