Sick Leave

Accrued paid time off for illness, doctor appointment; or illness, injury or death of an immediate family member. Each month the employee accrues 8 hours and 40 minutes.

Date of Hire

Automated payroll system accrual. Leave from the State of Florida may be transferred in accordance with SAO policies.

Annual Leave

Accrued paid time off for vacation and personal use. Each month the employee accrues 8 hours and 40 minutes. This rate increases to 10 hours at 3 years, 13 hours and 20 minutes at 4 years and 16 hours and 40 minutes at 10 years.

Date of Hire

Automated payroll system accruals. Leave from the State of Florida may transfer in accordance with SAO policies.

Prior Service Credit for Annual Leave

Credit toward annual leave accrual for employees that have worked for other State of Florida agencies.

No cost to participate.

Verified by Human Resources.

Family & Medical Leave

Entitlement of up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave in a rolling calendar year for a certified, serious health condition of self, child, family member. Accrued leave may be taken in lieu of leave without pay.

Accrued sick leave, annual leave or leave without pay.

By Case

Upon submission of FMLA Request form and Medical Certification.

Administrative Leave

Specific conditions, such as jury duty, emergency closings, immediate death in family, etc.

Must be approved in advance.

Social Security

Legally required disability, survivor and retirement insurance required by the Federal Government.

Funded by payroll tax (FICA) shared equally by employer and employee.

Workers' Compensation

Medical and disability benefits for employees injured or who develop and occupational disease as a direct result of performing job related duties.

Paid in full by the SAO.

Florida Retirement System

The option of a defined benefit plan with vesting time of 6 years or an investment plan with vesting time of one year. Retirement income depends on years of service, age, and compensation.

Monthly contribution paid by SAO only.

Date of Hire

Automatic. Must choose between pension and investment plan within 160 days of hire.

Deferred Compensation Plans

Tax sheltering/savings plan to supplement retirement income.

Employee contributions only.

Date of Hire

Enroll through the company.

Medical Insurance

(State Program)

Preferred Provider Plan or HMO.

Employee pays 15%-20% of premium depending on level of coverage.

The first month following the date of hire and a full payroll deduction

Employee has sixty days from the date of hire to enroll. Plan changes are allowed during an annual open enrollment period or upon an IRS qualifying event.

Life Insurance

(State Program)

State term insurance provides coverage equal to 1 ½ times the annual base salary. Attorney's coverage is at a rate of twice the annual base salary and includes a disability provision.

State pays most of premium, employee portion is $2-$5 per month.

The first month following the date of hire and a full payroll deduction

Employee has sixty days from the date of hire to enroll. Open enrollments held annually.
