Mayor John Peyton has appointed Patterson C. "Chad" Poppell as acting director of the city's Human Resources Division. Poppell replaces Rebecca Salter, who resigned last month to pursue a job opportunity out of state.
"Chad has been an outstanding performer in the Human Resources Division, demonstrating time and time again exceptional leadership skills and dedication to service," said Peyton. "His energy, education and experience will be an even greater asset to the city in this leadership role."
Poppell started his career with the City of Jacksonville in 1999 as an HR Analyst. Since that time, he has held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility, including Manager of Personnel Services and Chief of Organizational Support. He played a key role in the creation of the city's performance management system and the revamping of promotional assessment processes.
A graduate of Valdosta State University, Poppell earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master of Science Degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. He is also a Certified Senior Professional in Human Resources.
The administration will ask the Jacksonville City Council to confirm Poppell's permanent appointment to this position.
