Council Member Schellenberg charged the remaining sixty-six members of the Florida Association of Counties to have their elected officials to stand up and recognize the significance of the people who work in public safety and put their lives on the line every day. Regardless of the differences of opinion regarding the City’s pension reform efforts, the Council Members agree that it does not supersede the importance of public safety. “Let it be clear that we strongly support all first responders as they perform their duties and responsibilities in protecting and serving the people of not only Jacksonville, but every community across our country,” said Council President Clay Yarborough.
Well wishes and gratitude were extended to the firefighter that fell through the roof of a two-story building on Monday night as he and others successfully suppressed the blaze at a Southside condominium. The City of Jacksonville could not be a great or a safe city without the men and women of the Police & Fire Departments. Council Member Jim Love challenged citizens to get to know public safety officers and become involved in one of the twenty Sheriff’s Advisory Councils in order to make Jacksonville a safer and better place to live and work.
Council Member Schellenberg announced he will be introducing a resolution recognizing the bravery and work of the public safety officers.
Among the attendees were Council President Clay Yarborough, Council Vice President Greg Anderson, Council Members Lori Boyer, Doyle Carter, Bill Gulliford, Ray Holt, Warren Jones, Jim Love, and Robin Lumb; Steven Amos, president of the Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police; and Randy Wyse, president of the Jacksonville Association of Fire Fighters.
