February 08, 2007

City Council President Michael Corrigan accepted, on behalf of the citizens of Jacksonville, an original painting titled 'Blue Main', from the artist Alexandre Renoir. 'Art in Public Places is huge in Jacksonville and this painting will make a beautiful addition to the diverse art found throughout the city,' said Corrigan during a ceremony in the City Hall atrium on Thursday, February 8th.

Alexandre Renoir, the great-grandson of French impressionist painter, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, presented his original painting of the Main Street Bridge in appreciation for the wonderful welcome he has received in Jacksonville. Said Renoir, 'The treatment I have received since arriving has been beyond excellent.'

Council President Corrigan was joined in welcoming Renoir, by Richard Roberts, of R. Roberts Gallery in Avondale, who thanked the City Council and the Mayor for all the work they do to support the Arts in Jacksonville.
