MOSH is excited to host the premiere of La Caroline: Jacksonville’s Rock Opera. This ground-breaking production is directed by Samuel Fisher and choreographed by Tiffany Fish with costumes by Dana Ferger. La Caroline brings to light the French, Timucuan, and Spanish lives that converged at Ft. Caroline in 1564 to make us who we are today, for better or for worse. Drama and dance collide with contemporary rock performed live on MOSH’s rooftop to illuminate these fascinating characters and their stories. La Caroline, six years in the making, is written by Jacksonville musician and playwright Jennifer Chase with original music by John E. Citrone. It is produced by aJENNda productions and Jim Alabiso, LEAP Collaborative.

Age of Discovery Summer Discovery Camp at MOSH

In this week of Summer Discovery Camp, 2nd and 3rd grade campers will celebrate the 450th anniversary of Fort Caroline and learn about European explorers who influenced Florida’s history. Campers will also participate in a special international “toast” via Skype to commemorate the first Thanksgiving among the French and Timucua on June 30, 1564. Portraits from La Caroline: Modern Interpretations of Firsthand French Accounts

The native Floridians, as viewed by the French and described in firsthand French accounts, are featured in 20th and 21st century artwork on exhibit in City Hall. Among the works is a collection of mid-century drawings by Roger Early, Sr., who was a science illustrator, lecturer, the director of the Florida Studies Lab at Hillsborough Community College in Plant City, Florida and a popular on-air TV personality with WFLA-TV in Tampa during the 1950’s and 1960’s with his show, “Science Speaks.” He died in Lake Placid, Florida in 2007.
