Friendship Fountain Restoration Begins "The greening and softening of the area surrounding the fountain will provide another opportunity for workers, residents and visitors to congregate and enjoy the city's assets of the Southbank Riverwalk and St. Johns River," said Mayor John Peyton at the groundbreaking for the year-long Friendship Fountain restoration project. In addition to cosmetic improvements, changes to the pumps and pipes will also enhance the fountain's spectacular show.
Administrative Lien Amnesty Program The Municipal Code Compliance Division is accepting applications to cancel administrative fines assessed on some properties until Oct. 29, 2010. A community meeting to discuss the program is set for 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Sept. 15, 2010, at the Clanzel Brown Community Center, 4545 Moncrief Road. Four Public Meetings Sponsored by Public Library The Jacksonville Public Library is hosting four public meetings Wednesday, Sept. 15, and Thursday, Sept. 16, looking for programming ideas and comments and suggestions on cost-effective services. More information on JPL Public Meetings.
Hurricane Season Officially Underway The public is encouraged to prepare for what NOAA forecasters are predicting will be an "extremely active" hurricane season. The Emergency Preparedness Division has information and links to websites that will make preparations easier and more thorough. When the city's Emergency Operations Center is activated for a storm, a link to official city emergency information will be at the top of the coj.net homepage.
Sister Cities Association Plans Free Concert The public is invited to a free concert sponsored by the Jacksonville Sister Cities Association and the University of North Florida, 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 245 E. Church St. This Peace Concert will be part of a 2,000 city international effort focused on bringing all communities together. For more information, call 620-3839 or 630-0374.
