Each year the Council on Elder Affairs works with the City of Jacksonville to honor outstanding seniors in Jacksonville.  The outstanding male and female senior citizens of the year are chosen as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient which recognizes good work throughout the lifetime of the senior. 

23RD ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZENS OF THE YEAR AWARDS

To honor the achievements of special male and female seniors of the year and lifetime achievement recipient who have accomplished outstanding volunteer service to the community DURING THE PAST 2022 YEAR.  This year's award will be given on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in celebration of National Senior Citizens Day!  

ELIGIBILITY

  • Nominees must be residents of Jacksonville-Duval County.
  • Nominees must be sixty (60) years of age or older.
  • Nominee has made an impact in the community and/or for seniors during the 2022 for the male and female of the year.
  • Lifetime nominee has exemplified good work in the community or for seniors throughout their lifetime. 
  • Nominees must not work as a full-time paid employee of an organization whose primary purpose is to serve the elderly.

CRITERIA

  • The nomination must reflect the actual accomplishments(s) achieved during the past 2022 year for male and female of the year.
  • The nomination must reflect the actual accomplishments(s) achieved during their lifetime for the Lifetime Achievement recipient.
  • Members of the Jacksonville-Duval County on Elder Affairs are not eligible.  

HOW TO NOMINATE

  • Complete the online form below or download and fill out the nomination form (PDF).  Attach a supporting statement of no more than 500 words describing the nominee’s activities and achievement(s). You may also include appropriate support materials.  Do Not submit video tapes, displays, films, or scrapbooks.
  • All submitted materials become property of the Jacksonville-Duval County Council on Elder Affairs (COEA) and cannot be returned.
  • All entries should be received by our office no later than Thursday, August 4, 2023.
The 23rd Annual Senior Citizens of the Year Awards Luncheon is tentative to be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 10:00 am inside the Jacksonville Public Library - Downtown, 303 N. Laura Street, Conference Center, Jacksonville, FL  32202. (Event date and location are subject to change.)

Congratulations to Dr. Charles B. McIntosh - 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award winner and Salli Solow and Thomas Sutton - 2022 Seniors Citizens of the Year award winners. Dr. Charles B. McIntosh is a pioneer in Sickle Cell research, Dr Charles McIntosh a graduate of Old Stanton High School became the first African American pediatrician in Jacksonville.  Salli volunteers at Downtown Ecumenical Services Council (DESC) Clothing Center while Thomas is very involved as a volunteer Senior Companion for the Independent Living Program with the City of Jacksonville's Senior Services Division. Thank you and congratulations to each of you.

Congratulations to Patrina Smith and Donald Zeiser - 2021 Seniors Citizens of the Year award winners. Patrina volunteers at Duval County Public Schools while Donald is very involved with Seniors on a Mission. Thank you and congratulations to both.

Congratulations to Judy Davis and James Mosley - 2019 Seniors Citizens of the Year award winners. Judy volunteers at the Downtown Ecumenical Services Council while James is very involved with Aging True's Meals on Wheels program. Thank you and congratulations to both.
