The City of Jacksonville's Recreation and Community Services Department announced that the Kids Kampus Splash Water Park will remain closed throughout the summer as the city moves forward with renovations of Metropolitan Park.
“Each year the city spends a considerable amount of money to make temporary repairs to the water park in preparation for its summer-time usage,” said Roslyn Phillips, director of Jacksonville's Recreation and Community Services Department. “With construction and renovation plans moving forward at Metropolitan Park, including overall enhancements to Kids Kampus, it did not make sense to expend funds for repairs to a facility that will be demolished in the coming months to make way for enhanced water features.”
The city stands to save approximately $125,000 in the current fiscal year by not conducting the repairs to or staffing the water park during the summer time.
The remainder of Kids Kampus will remain open but unstaffed until it closes for construction later this year as part of the overall renovations to Metropolitan Park.
For groups that have existing summer-time reservations at Kids Kampus, JaxParks will offer free passes to either K.A. Hanna or Huguenot Memorial parks or the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens.
