March Incidents 2006

Although weather-wise March arrived '...in like a lamb' with pleasantry, the month unfortunately began for some members of our Fire/Rescue Department with a gloomful response to a tragic accident. Shortly before noon at the high-rise construction site near Riverplace, a construction platform some 20 stories high suddenly gave way resulting in two workers plummeting to the ground. One of the two was immediately pronounced dead at the scene, the other expired a short while later at Shands after being transported to the Trauma Center in critical condition. The accident is under investigation by officials from OSHA and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
