Greetings from Chair Michael Wachholz
I am privileged and honored to serve as the Chair of the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission.
The Commission has been an integral part of the Jacksonville community for over 40 years, helping to eliminate discrimination in all aspects of life. We work tirelessly to ensure that all our neighbors are protected from discrimination based upon one’s race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital or familial status.
Further to our charge of eliminating prejudice and the practice of discrimination, we continue to resolve complaints involving equal access to housing and employment opportunities, and operate as a partner with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. In June 2004, the Commission's authority was expanded to include the enforcement of public accommodations complaints to ensure that all our residents can enjoy the full benefit of all the services offered in our community.
In addition, through our city-wide Study Circles initiative, the Commission continues to provide the community with opportunities to learn more about the growing diversity and experiences of all our residents. The Study Circles program establishes a framework for understanding how we can work together for the common good of Jacksonville.
We are proud of our history and remain committed to encouraging positive change that benefits all of our citizens.
